Job Description

The editor reviews print and digital materials for clarity, accuracy, and adherence to the company style guide. The editor also manages version control of edited documents and proofs, organizes multi-person proofing efforts, and distributes important editorial information to the company. The editor reports to the editorial manager.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

Review material for format, clarity, and accuracy
Provide editorial guidance on and review of Privateer Press game and game support material. This ranges from game components such as rulebooks and cards to product packaging, website material, fiction, and marketing and organized play materials. The editor’s duty is to clean up the grammar, punctuation, and readability and to work with the authors and project managers to resolve any issues of content or tone.

Review proofs of finished products before press
Review finished products to ensure that no errors have been introduced during production. These details can be as small as the placement of a trademark symbol or as large as missing text or using the correct photo for a product. For larger projects, the editor organizes volunteer reviewers, collates and approves the proofreading notes, and maintains version control until ultimately signing off that the product is press-worthy.

Support company reference material
The editor works with the editorial manager to keep the company style guide current and the staff informed on its contents as well as to identify and create other needed reference material.

 

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in English, journalism, or a related field, or equivalent work experience
  • Minimum of four years’ work experience in editorial, journalism, publishing, or a related field
  • Strong knowledge of English grammar, punctuation, and syntax and comfort working with a variety of authorial voices. Final candidates must be able to pass Privateer’s editing test
  • An aggressive determination to root out instances of bad English composition. Be able to identify misplaced modifiers, dangling prepositions, and unnecessary comma use and suggest changes that improve the text without rewriting it
  • Acute attention to detail at all levels and through multiple iterations
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to work well with other departments
  • Proven project management and time management skills; organization, reliability, and a strong ability to multitask
  • Capacity to work quickly, independently, and proactively
  • Familiarity with editorial style guide usage, preferably Chicago Manual of Style
  • Hobby game experience/knowledge. Familiarity with Privateer Press products is a plus but is not necessary
  • The ability to provide support at conventions and events as assigned, which may require travel

Job Description

The Marketing Manager is a key member of the Privateer Press Marketing Division whose primary role is the creation of marketing copy for Privateer Press' various advertising, product lines, and public relations. In addition, the Marketing Manager oversees the administrative and day-to-day managing of the staff members who comprise the Marketing Division and acts as a liaison between the Marketing Division, the Privateer Press Leadership team, and the Project Management team to ensure all marketing projects are briefed with Project Management and completed on schedule.

Duties Include:

    • Write or oversee all copywriting for advertising, website, sales documents, news items, press releases, product solicitations, and product packaging.
    • Manage and oversee administrative and day-to-day needs of the Privateer Press Marketing Division.
    • Coordinate all ad buys, including rate negotiations and time durations.
    • Maintain and evaluate an advertising calendar that schedules print, Web, and other advertising efforts at the direction of the Chief Creative Officer.
    • Collaborate and coordinate with customer service and community administrators to maintain visibility over consumer feedback (retailers and players) and community health.
    • Coordinate with Social Media Team on developing, utilizing, and expanding social marketing initiatives, including Privateer Press’ forums, Facebook, and Twitter.
    • Coordinate with the Organized Play Developer to ensure proper marketing and promotion of various Organized Play programs.
    • Coordinate with Conventions team to create promotional materials for and advise on convention appearances and other public activities.

Job Description

The Project Manager (PM) is in charge of producing printed material to support Privateer Press’ product lines. Projects will include rulebooks, board and card games, packaging, inserts, and reference cards in addition to electronic support in the form of downloadable PDFs. The PM coordinates with the various Privateer Press divisions and departments within those divisions (writing, editing, studio, graphic design, development, and licensing), vendors, and freelance contractors as well as our production and marketing departments to ensure on-time delivery of high quality products.

This is a full-time position in our Bellevue, WA office.

Responsibilities

  • Project Management – The PM is responsible for ushering projects along the entire production life cycle from concept to deployment. The PM will take original project concepts, build mockups, acquire approval, coordinate personnel, and deliver finished products on time.
  • Scheduling – The PM will work with the project management team to plan production schedules and will take every step necessary to ensure that projects complete on time to Privateer Press’ quality standards.
  • Analysis – The PM performs analysis on the projects under his/her care. This includes, but is not limited to, budgetary concerns, process improvements, file management and storage, and efficient workflow. The PM will also perform feasibility analysis on projects before they are approved for official production.
  • Resource coordination - The PM coordinates with the project management team and Director of Business to balance workload and schedules across the Creative Development department.
  • Reporting – The PM maintains records of production details on each project, and upon a project’s completion the PM will furnish a post mortem report for future analysis and improvement.

Job Description
The Digital Sculptor will be part of Privateer Press’ award winning Studio team and will be responsible for sculpting 32mm heroic scale miniatures from detailed concept art under the direction of the Studio Director and Creative Director using digital sculpting programs.

This is a full-time position in our Bellevue, WA office.

Duties Include:
• Sculpting Miniatures utilizing digital software – Working from concept and pose sketches, create three-dimensional sculpts of the figures. Consult with Studio Director and Creative Director to ensure the themes and character of the figures are maintained, and render the work in progress of various stages of completion for approvals and creative feedback.
• Contribute to the studio’s creative process - As a member of the miniatures studio, the Digital Sculptor will often be called on to offer suggestions, critiques, and solutions for translating two-dimensional concept art into three-dimensional miniatures, whether on his own work or the work of other members of the studio.
• Prepare Final Sculpts for Rapid Prototyping – Breakdown final digital sculpts into complementary parts for Rapid Prototyping and adjust final sculpt as needed during the RP process.
• Additional Duties – Other various sculpting tasks as required.

Required Skills and Proficiencies
• Experience with Zbrush software. Knowledge of Maya, Rhino, Freeform/Claytools, and/or Solid Works a plus.
• Understanding and experience with digital sculpting process for 3-dimensional models.
• Acute attention to details with a strong understanding of how the details will read at scale.
• Patience, focus, and determination to see a project through completion
• Capability to work under the direction and needs of mold makers, production specialists, and artistic directors.
• Ability to keep cool and produce quality work under pressured deadlines

Job Description

Privateer Press is looking for an experienced concept artist to produce high-end concept drawings to be utilized for miniature sculpting and color illustration for all current and future intellectual properties.

The Concept Artist will work closely with the creative managers and game development staff to produce high quality artwork including but not limited to: character line concepts, technical drawings, final color artwork, landscapes and environments, product designs, and cartoon character illustrations.

The Concept Artist will maintain a library of current and previous work in a standardized format for access by the design and marketing departments.

The Concept Artist may be required to travel to industry trade shows to participate as a member of the show crew and personality of Privateer Press.

This is a full-time position in our Bellevue, WA office.

Responsibilities

Character Concept Art - The Concept Artist will work closely with the creative managers and game development staff to design and render characters that will be used for miniature and final product art. It is the Concept Artist’s responsibility to push the visual boundaries of Privateer’s visual brands by creating stunningly dynamic and original designs.

Product Illustration - The Concept Artist will assist the graphic design department by providing additional artwork when required, including final color artwork, landscapes and environments, product and logo designs, and cartoon character illustrations when required.

Miniature Quality Control - The Concept Artist will also work closely with the miniature-sculpting department to maintain a high level of quality control through the sculpting and miniature molding process.
