June 2018 Dynamic Update Developer’s Notes: Crucible Guard CID
Below are changes that came out of the Crucible Guard CID. Our thanks to all who participated in this CID cycle!
Core Rules
Immunity: Electricity
Add the following to the end of the Immunity: Electricity text:
Lightning cannot arc from a model with Immunity: Electricity .
[Page 32 in Prime and Primal; page 18 in Prime Digest and Primal Digest.]
This rule has been changed to address some unforeseen and quite strong benefits of targeting your own models that have Immunity: Electricity to circumvent many opposing special rules. The way those special rules were being negated was not the way we want such interactions to work in the game.
Theme Forces
Replace the second paragraph of the Theme Forces section with the following:
Many character warjacks have Bond special rules representing an affinity with a particular model. An army made using a theme force can include any character warjacks that can be bonded to a particular model as part of that model’s battlegroup whether or not the warjack can normally be included in armies made using the theme force.
(Page 40 in Prime and Primal; page 26 in Prime Digest and Primal Digest.)
This change allows the Bond rule to be used to attach character ’jacks to battlegroup controllers who aren’t warcasters.
Cygnar
Artificer General Nemo
Replace the first sentence of the rules text of the Eye of the Storm feat with the following:
When a friendly Faction model makes an electrical damage roll against an enemy model in Nemo’s control range, add an additional die to the damage roll.
Along with the core rule change to Immunity: Electricity above, this change should bring Nemo 3 into line with other ’casters’ feats of similar effect. Requiring enemy models to be inside Nemo’s control range will force the Nemo player to commit to the battle and play their warcaster in a way we believe is appropriate to the power level of this feat.
Ace
Reduce point cost from 12 to 10.
Remove Advance Deployment .
Replace the third sentence of the Infiltrate rule with the following:
While its battlegroup controller is B2B with this model, that model also gains Stealth .
Ace was both overperforming and underperforming throughout this CID. With Haley 2, Ace was able to fire multiple shots into deployment zones using Trick Shot, allowing for a substantial amount of disruption in the enemy force. At the same time, we felt Ace simply cost too much when this combination was not used. Removing Advance Deployment while also reducing the point cost should help Ace make it into more lists. The changes to Infiltrate will also allow any battlegroup controller to benefit from this rule.
Protectorate
Devout
Replace the text of the Spell Barrier rule with the following:
Spell Barrier – While this model is B2B with its battlegroup controller, its battlegroup controller cannot be targeted by enemy spells.
Spell Barrier now functions with Severius 0 and Tristan 1.
Cryx
Corruptor
Replace the text of the Distillation rule with the following:
Distillation – When a living enemy model is destroyed by this attack while this model is in its battlegroup controller’s control range, immediately after the attack is resolved remove d3 + 3 damage points from this model’s battlegroup controller.
Replace the fourth sentence of the Psycho Venom rule with the following:
For the rest of the turn, this model’s battlegroup controller can channel spells through the affected model as if it were a model in its battlegroup with the Arc Node advantage.
These changes to the Corruptor allow its special rules to affect battlegroup controllers.
Mercenaries
Gorman Di Wulfe, Rogue Alchemist
Increase RAT from 5 to 6.
Add the Crucible Guard to the Factions listed in the Mercenary rule.
Add the Partisan [Crucible Guard] rule:
Partisan [Crucible Guard] – When included in a Crucible Guard army, this model is a Crucible Guard model instead of a Mercenary model.
Replace the text of the Acid Bomb rule with the following:
Models hit suffer a POW 12 corrosion damage roll and the Corrosion continuous effect
.
Replace the second sentence of the Black Oil rule with the following:
Instead, models hit suffer Blind for one round.
Replace the second sentence of the Rust rule with the following:
Instead, constructs hit suffer –2 ARM for one turn.
Gorman became a Partisan for Crucible Guard and picked up RAT 6. The change across the game for Rust is reflected here as well. Gorman’s two other attack types had some outdated language brought into line with current phrasing but there is no functional change to either of them.

Add the Crucible Guard to the Factions listed in the Mercenary rule on the following models:
Ashlynn d’Elyse

Hutchuk, Ogrun Bounty Hunter
Add the Crucible Guard to the Factions listed in the Mercenary rule.
Add the Partisan [Crucible Guard] special rule:
Partisan [Crucible Guard] – When included in a Crucible Guard army, this model is a Crucible Guard model instead of a Mercenary or Minion model.
Replace the second sentence of the Rust rule with the following:
Instead, constructs hit suffer –2 ARM for one turn.
Hutchuk became a Partisan for the Crucible Guard and received updated wording for his Rust special rule.
Multiple Models
Add the Crucible Guard to the Factions listed in the Mercenary rule on the following models:
Lynus Wesselbaum & Edrea Lloryrr
Alten Ashley

These models all received an update allowing them to be included in Crucible Guard armies.
Theme Forces
Cygnar Theme Force: Sons of the Tempest
Replace the fourth special rule with the following:
Models in this army can upkeep spells on friendly Arcane Tempest model/units without spending focus.
This change will allow models other than warcasters to upkeep their spells for free when targeting Arcane Tempest models in the Sons of the Tempest theme force.
Protectorate Theme Force: The Creator’s Might
In the Army Composition section, replace “Initiate Tristan Durant” with “Solos with the Battlegroup Controller special rule.”
This update allows Severius 0 to be included in The Creator’s Might.
Khador Theme Force: Jaws of the Wolf
In the Army Composition section, add “Solos with the Battlegroup Controller special rule.”
This update allows Malakov 1 and Sorscha 0 to be included in Jaws of the Wolf.
Mercenary Theme Force: Llaelese Resistance
Replace the second sentence of the first special rule with the following:
These units are considered to be friendly Llaelese Mercenary units instead of Crucible Guard, Cygnar, or Protectorate units, and they can include attachments but cannot include Ranking Officers.
During the Crucible Guard CID, we noticed that Ranking Officers caused some very strange rules interactions within the Llaelese Resistance theme force. To remove any confusion, we have explicitly stated they are not allowed.
