November 2017 Dynamic Update Developer's Notes

Below are the adjustments we’ve made to existing models as a result of the 12 Factions of Christmas CID cycle, with a big thanks (again) to our awesome player community!

Cygnar

Arcane Tempest Gun Mage Officer

Replace the Tactics: Practiced Maneuvers special rule with Moment of Clarity:

Moment of ClarityThis model can use Moment of Clarity once per game at any time during its unit’s activation. This activation, models in this unit gain True Sight. (A model with True Sight ignores cloud effects when determining LOS. A model with True Sight also ignores Stealth .)

Moment of Clarity should bring substantial utility to the Arcane Tempest Gun Mage unit, allowing it to effectively combat skirmishing infantry and hidden targets.

Black 13th Strike Force

Add the Pathfinder advantage and the True Sight special rule to Lynch, Ryan, and Watts:

True SightThis model ignores cloud effects when determining LOS. This model also ignores Stealth .

Adding Pathfinder and True Sight will help the Black 13th feel more like the elite, highly trained combat unit they are meant to be. Pathfinder in particular interacts very beneficially with their Prowl special rule.

Protectorate of Menoth

Deliverer Skyhammers

Increase the POW of the Skyhammer to 10.

Add the Rocket Volley special rule to the Leader & Grunts:

Rocket VolleyIf three or more models participate in a combined ranged attack, the size of the AOE is 4; if five or more models participate, the size of the AOE is 5.

Add the Arcing Fire special rule to the Skyhammer:

Arcing FireWhen attacking with this weapon, this model can ignore intervening models except those within 1˝ of the target.

Increasing the damage output of this unit while also making their combined attacks easier to use and more effective should bring this unit to the point where they are a compelling choice for the tabletop.

Holy Zealots

Reduce the point cost for Leader & 5 Grunts to 7 and for Leader & 9 Grunts to 12.

Increase the RAT to 5.

We felt that the Holy Zealots were underperforming a bit. Bumping their RAT up to 5 and slightly decreasing their point cost makes the unit much more enticing.

Mercenaries

Ashlynn d’Elyse

Increase the number of damage boxes to 16.

Add the Veteran Leader [Llaelese] special rule to Ashlynn:

Veteran Leader [Llaelese]While in this model’s command range, other friendly Llaelese models gain +1 to attack rolls.

Add the Lunge special rule to Nemesis:

LungeThis weapon becomes RNG 2 during this model’s activation.

Increase the RNG of the Distraction spell to 10.

Replace the Twister spell with Chosen Ground:

Chosen Ground | 2 | Self | Ctrl | – | Up | No
While in the spellcaster’s control range, models in its battlegroup gain Pathfinder and Steady. (A model with Steady cannot become knocked down.)

Giving Ashlynn the ability to lead her army in a more meaningful way while also slightly increasing her offensive potential made quite a difference in her play style. We feel these changes should make her a stronger choice for a warcaster.

Vanguard

Reduce the point cost to 10.

Add the Maker’s Mark [Crucible Guard] special rule:

Maker’s Mark [Crucible Guard]This warjack can be included in a battlegroup controlled by a Crucible Guard model. If it is, this warjack is a Crucible Guard model instead of a Mercenary model. If this warjack begins the game as part of a battlegroup controlled by a Crucible Guard model, it can be included in an army made using a theme force whether or not it can normally be included in armies made using the theme force.

The Vanguard is a very solid light warjack, but we felt it just wasn’t performing quite up the standards we wanted. We dropped it to 10 points to make it a bit more cost-effective, and we added Maker’s Mark [Crucible Guard] to allow the Vanguard to be taken as a friendly Faction choice in a Crucible Guard army.

Circle Orboros

Bradigus Thorle the Runecarver

Add Damage Type: Magical to both weapons.

Increase the RNG of Stone’s Throw to 10.

Replace the stats and text of the Mystic Wards spell with the following:

Mystic Wards | 2 | Self | Ctrl | – | Rnd | No
Enemy animi and enemy upkeep spells on models in the spellcaster’s battlegroup that are in its control area immediately expire. Enemy magic attacks targeting a model in the spellcaster’s battlegroup suffer –5 RNG. Mystic Wards lasts for one round.

Bradigus enjoyed several updates to his rules during this CID, the most important being the reworking of his Mystic Wards spell.

Wold Guardian

Reduce the point cost to 16.

Increase the STR to 13.

The Wold Guardian was not performing to the level we had envisioned for it. Increasing its STR and reducing its point cost should put it more in line with the rest of the game.

Woldwarden

Reduce the point cost to 14.

Like the Wold Guardian, the Woldwarden wasn’t quite earning its keep. Reducing its point cost should put it more in line with the rest of the game.

Woldwatcher

Reduce the point cost to 8.

Increase the MAT to 6.

The Woldwatcher’s points seemed a tad high for what it was bringing to the table. Increasing its MAT to 6 makes its melee attacks a bit more effective, and reducing its points makes it a more attractive anchor for your army.

Blackclad Stoneshaper

Add Earth’s Power (Action) to the Stoneshaper’s spells:

Earth’s Power (Action)RNG CMD. Target friendly Faction construct warbeast. If the warbeast is in range, it gains +2 STR this turn.

Many of the wold warbeasts in Circle felt as if they did not quite stack up to their counterparts in other Factions point for point. This change to the Stoneshaper will make them hit just as hard, if not harder than, their counterparts and adds a certain amount of synergy to the way they are played. We feel this interaction will create a more interesting gameplay experience and make the Circle’s construct beasts a more appealing army choice.

Minions

Helga the Conquerer

Increase the RNG of the Distraction spell to 10.

We updated Helga’s Distraction spell to align with Ashlynn d’Elyse’s.
