Throne of Everblight Assembly Guide

Start by examining the contents. Lay out the parts and clean up the flash and mold lines. The Throne of Everblight is divided fairly evenly between large resin parts and smaller white metal pieces. Cleaning the metal parts is easily done with clippers, a hobby knife, and a file set. Use the clippers to remove large pieces of flash and the knife and files to smooth out the mold lines.

The resin parts also have flash that needs to be removed. This excess resin is from the sprue used to hold the part in place inside the silicone mold. Several parts on the Throne have round nubs on their undersides from the casting process (highlighted red in the photo). You can easily remove those with clippers. Once the pieces are trimmed use a hobby knife or wet sanding to smooth the area.

It is important to note that resin dust can be toxic if inhaled, so be sure to wear a dust mask when working with resin parts. An N-95 respirator is best. Using a hobby knife to scrape the mold lines creates less dust than sanding or filing, so it is the recommended method. There are times when sanding is necessary, however, and for this we recommend a wet sanding technique. Wet sanding is done with sandpaper dipped in water. The water helps trap the resin dust so that it does not release into the air. Sandpaper intended for wet sanding has a backing of plastic rather than paper, which would deteriorate in water. When you are finished cleaning the resin parts, wash them with soap and water to remove any excess resin dust and to ensure there is no mold release agent remaining on the part, which might prevent paint from adhering to the model.

Once you have cleaned the mold lines and removed the flash from the parts, move on to the assembly. First build the upper platform. The larger spines fit neatly into the grooves on the six overhangs that ring the central platform. Once those are attached, begin attaching the smaller spikes to the twelve smaller holes that ring the platform. To make attaching the spikes easier, start by putting a drop of Formula P3 Super Glue on the plastic clamshell used to pack the Throne’s parts. Then, using tweezers or Formula P3 clippers to grasp a spike lightly, dip the bottom into the glue before applying the spike to the attachment points. Once all the spikes are attached and dry, take the completed platform and attach it to the upper torso by matching up the attachment points on the underside of the platform and the top of the torso.

With the upper assembly complete the next step is to assemble the four tentacles. Match the four different tentacle arms to their end points by using the unique attachment points found on each pair. It’s a good idea to dry fit the parts a couple of times to ensure that each pair is a match before gluing. The photo above shows the appropriate pairings for each tentacle.

Next begin assembling the Throne’s maw. First attach the teeth using the same technique described earlier for the upper platform spikes. Once those are dry, glue the upper jaw into place and then attach the tongue using the assembled mouth as a guide for placement. Take care not to break off any teeth during this step, as it can be tricky to reattach them once the tongue is in place! Then attach the four tentacles to the body using by matching the letters on each tentacle to each attachment point on the body. Use Formula P3 Sculpting Putty to fill any gaps that appear during this process.

Finally, assemble the Nyss Sorceress by attaching her arm to her body.
For ease of painting we recommend you do not attach the four preassembly steps together until painting is complete. This will allow you to reach the many areas of this intricate model much more easily. You can attach the sorceress to a spare 30 mm base. Finally attach the upper and lower portions of the Throne to spare Formula P3 primer caps with pins and poster putty.

For the final assembly, attach the upper and lower portion of the Throne together using the precut guides on the bottom and top of each assembly, respectively. Once that is dry, attach the Nyss Sorceress to the upper platform to complete your new Throne of Everblight.
