For years, our devoted readers have wondered what lies beyond the shores of western Immoren. If you’re anything like me, you’ve pored over every published book, article, and model entry to learn everything you could about the mysterious continent of Zu, first mentioned in the Iron Kingdoms Character Guide. We’ve said very little in our books about what lies in that new land, waiting for when we felt the time was right to pull back the curtain.

Well, that time begins now.

March is in full swing, and along with lions, lambs, and Ides, this month also sees our 2017 Army Boxes marching on with the release of new Army Boxes for both Cygnar and Retribution of Scyrah.

Each of these Army Boxes contains a ready-to-play 50-point army, designed by the Privateer Press Development team to provide a solid foundation for new players or for veterans interested in diving into a new Faction. While the last couple of Army Box pairs have each contained a similar theme in composition, this month we present two very different takes on the art of WARMACHINE.

I always struggle with February. Somehow, having only twenty-eight days seems to make the month go by 28x faster! While tons happened in those twenty-eight days, one of the things I want to highlight in this Insider is the next wave of our 2017 Army Boxes.

Monday, March 6th, marks the first day of Community Integrated Development for WARMACHINE & HORDES. So, today I wanted to take some time to talk about expectations. Both what you can expect if you decide to jump into CID and what will be expected from everyone who chooses to participate in terms of good and useful testing feedback.

So many important dates coming up! March 6th is the start of Community Integrated Development; March 13th sees the Privateer crew headed to GAMA.

March 20th is my birthday, in case you want to get me a present.

March 22nd gets the crew back on the road to AdeptiCon. But one date in particular holds my attention like no other: July 14th. Day One of Lock & Load.

Crossroads of Courage: Season 3 begins tomorrow! This year’s narrative league has been a rollercoaster thus far, with your reports directly influencing the fate of the league’s central protagonist (antagonist?), Holden. If you haven’t heard, the Crossroads league is culminating in a huge narrative event at Lock & Load GameFest 2017, in which Holden’s final fate (and rules) will be decided. Why does that matter? Because Holden is going to get released as a full model for WARMACHINE and HORDES sometime after Lock & Load 2017!

Not long ago, Chief Creative Officer and WARMACHINE and HORDES creator Matthew D. Wilson announced our plans to unite Privateer Press’ game development team and our passionate player community under the banner of Community Integrated Development. Since then, we have been working furiously behind the scenes preparing to roll out this exciting new era of WARMACHINE and HORDES.

After taking a bit o’ time off from releasing pins to give you time to update your collection with any you might have missed, Privateer Pins is releasing the next wave of pins February 15, including a new line that’s going to be a popular one…

When Grind first came around a few years back, I wasn’t yet a wargamer or a hobbyist. The game sounded like it was right up my alley, but I had unfortunately missed the boat on finding games in my local area. So, when I heard it was returning, I couldn’t have been more excited! As a gamer, I love good rules, as a painter I love painting awesome models, and as a hobbyist I love creating those models to paint!

What an exciting time to be a member of the WARMACHINE and HORDES community! We've recently announced that we’d be moving toward Community Integrated Development and removing cards from our packaged models so that we can make ongoing improvements to the games without hamstringing ourselves with physical products.

When working on the Helios, I was very excited to paint his giant glowy eye. Big, cyclopean robots are one of my favorite things, so I was really happy to get my brushes on this fella. Here’s a rundown on how I painted the arcantrik gleam of this bad boy.

As a devotee of Privateer Press for as long as I can remember, it is with no small amount of excitement that I finally get to type these words out: Hi! My name is Josh, and this is my first Insider.

For many people, ringing in the New Year brings with it a strong desire to start something new. In recognition of that, we here at Privateer Press have worked up some new and exciting army boxes for WARMACHINE & HORDES that will be hitting retail shelves starting this month.

Each of these forthcoming army boxes contains a ready-to-play 50-point army, designed by the Privateer Press development team to provide a solid foundation for brand-new players, or for veterans who are interested in diving into a new faction. This month sees the release of army boxes for Cryx and Circle Orboros, both of which put powerful battlegroups front and center. But what better way to learn about these lists and the thought process behind them than hearing from the people who created them.

Skorne players, your long wait is over. While we would have preferred to include these changes with the general errata document that went up last month, some things are worth waiting for. However, rather than just handing you the errata document along with our developers’ notes, I wanted to take the time to write a few words about our revision efforts.

In this week’s Insider we get to take a look at Horgle, the Anvil. Concept artist Andrea Uderzo was tasked with updating Horgle’s original design, taking him from a journeyman warlock to a full-fledged ’caster. Our written description for this iteration of Horgle requested the following changes and additions:

-Horgle’s new look should represent a transition from a magic-using tradesman to a more prominent military leader. He should have a little more armor and fewer of the trappings of his trade as a blacksmith.
-Horgle is armed with a pair of melee weapons. These could be based on his original weapons or be all new. These are magical weapons that radiate with heat. They should be primarily made of metal.
-We need two poses for this model, a soft plastic version for the army box and an alternative metal version.

Theme forces are a defining aspect of WARMACHINE & HORDES, and it’s about time that everyone gets their hands on one in the new edition. As the new Command books begin to roll out for the majority of the Factions in the game—each of which contains new theme forces—we decided we didn’t want to make certain Factions go months without a single theme force while others enjoyed access to several.

Every year the entire Privateer Press crew comes together for an amazing weekend full of games, hangouts, and fun! Whether you’re looking for a chance to ask writing manager Matt Goetz about skorne underpants or you want to throw down the gauntlet against lead designer and developer Jason Soles in a game of WARMACHINE or HORDES, Lock & Load has exactly what you’re looking for.

In this concept art Insider, I’ll give you a glimpse into the visual development of Lord Tyrant Zaadesh. Our brief design notes were as follows:

– This is a second incarnation of Tyrant Zaadesh. He is now older and higher rank in the Skorne army.
– Zaadesh’s armor and back banner should evolve with his rank. His armor should be slightly heavier and his banner more grand.
– Zaadesh should still have his mouth and nose covered with either a mask or a new helmet design.
– Zaadesh is still armed with the same sword as he was in his previous version.

The January issue of No Quarter isn’t too far away, which means the launch of No Quarter Games is almost here! If you haven’t heard, every issue of No Quarter from January on will include the complete rules for a new game that will often feature WARMACHINE & HORDES miniatures.

Some of these games, like the January release of Grind Mk III, are rules supplements to WARMACHINE & HORDES that utilize the core game mechanics of everyone’s favorite tabletop wargame. Other games, like the March release of Extreme Colossal Wrestling, are totally new games that share absolutely no mechanics with WARMACHINE & HORDES.
