The first week of the Journeyman League is upon us, and I have elected to play the Retribution of Scyrah. Although I have dabbled in wargaming, I have never painted an army. It seems to be the curse of the sculptor to spend so much time working on making sculptures that you have little time left to actually spend on the hobby and play the games you help create. However, the Journeyman League seemed to be a very opportune time to commit to building and painting a full 50 points of models. This time, I am determined.

I will be the first to happily admit that I am not a skilled painter; I have smeared paint on a few miniatures with varied results. The Formula P3 Hobby Series Volume 1: Core Techniques DVD featuring Ron Kruzie was very helpful in refining my painting abilities to the point that I no longer feel the sting of embarrassment when I bust out my painted miniatures. I recommend the DVD to anyone looking to up his painting skills.

The battlegroup box set for Retribution is Kaelyssa, a Manticore, a Chimera, and a Griffon. I chose Retribution because I had already begun painting the Arcantrik Force Generator so I could display it alongside the other sculptures I have worked on. The colors I selected for the Force Generator were based around Vietnam-era Huey Helicopters, complete with toothy red and white mouths. I decided to apply those colors across the rest of my army, and so far I am pretty happy with the results.

Now if I can just figure out how to smash Rob's Khador force...
