Insider 4-2-2012

Today, I want to talk about the upcoming Bodgers Game, Heap. If you haven’t heard about Heap yet, check out this snazzy video we made. Don’t worry; I’ll wait.

Okay, now that you’re up to speed, I’ll let you in on an insider secret: this game is seriously fun. I was lucky enough to participate in some of the Heap playtesting, and from day one I knew this game was something special.

I love fast-paced, insane card games like these. Before I worked at Privateer Press, I remember playing Infernal Contraption between rounds at various Steamroller tournaments. It was a good mix. One minute I was deep in thought, planning out intricate tactical maneuvers in WARMACHINE, and shortly after, I was throwing down cards, laughing, and destroying my friend’s well-laid plans.

People will play Heap in a variety of ways, and that is what makes it so great—it’s very accessible to all gamers. For me, it’s going to be the perfect game to play at conventions when I have a short break and some time to kill.

As much fun as I’m having playing Heap, I can’t wait for everyone else to play it. I’m really looking forward to assisting the Press Gang on how best to teach the game to others. It’s the kind of game that causes people to cackle manically during a demo. I mean, where else can you say the phrase, “Joke’s on you, I hauled Yermomza’s Winch, a Hamster Wheel, and this sweet rocket!”

Heap releases later this summer, so start your engines and get ready for pedal-to-the-metal mayhem!
