Insider 2-10-2012

One of the most commonly asked questions I hear is: "What does it take to be a Press Ganger?" There are a lot of smaller details that make up the foundation of being a great PG: rules knowledge, organization, great personality, coverage, people skills, and so on. Today, I’m going to let you in on a secret—the most important detail is passion.

Press Gangers not only have a great passion for the game but also a great passion for their local gaming communities. It takes a great deal of passion to willingly spend your free time organizing and running events for others, bringing new players into the fold, and working long shifts at conventions around the world.

It’s that passion that drives the best volunteer force in the world to get creative within their communities. Running official leagues and events is a great way to have fun with our games, and the prize kits that go with those are simply awesome. Often though, the Gang goes above and beyond to create some really unique homemade prizes and events.

Here, let me show you a few examples:

Check out this sweet trophy that PG Ater Daeus built for his homemade battle box league.

PG Shayne Cummin in Australia sent in this photo of some awesome custom made medals. Big props to PG Jyggdrasil for having these made.

If a PG in your area has impressed you with their passion and creativity, drop me a line at and tell me about it.
