Insider 2-08-2011

Every now and then, someone asks me, “What faction do you play?” My WARMACHINE/HORDES collection at home includes every faction, and I play every faction here at work for balanced playtesting. So I happily reply, “All of them!”

The follow-up question is a bit tougher, however: “Which faction is your favorite?”

The first several times I was asked this question, I sat there a bit dumbstruck considering my reply. Which is my favorite? My brain rapidly cycled through the options, weighing the pros and cons of all sorts of elements of all the factions. When I did finally answer, I tripped over my own words as I changed my mind multiple times in a single sentence.

These days, I have my answer down pat. Which faction is my favorite, you ask. All of them!

Cygnar is my favorite faction because the warcasters are some of my favorite characters story-wise, and that story really comes to life on the tabletop.

The Protectorate of Menoth is my favorite faction because of their versatile answers to any opposing army type.

Khador is my favorite faction because I love the durability of their warjacks and Man-O-War units.

Cryx is my favorite faction because Cryx was my first love and the faction that opened my eyes to the amazing world of Privateer Press gaming.

Retribution of Scyrah is my favorite faction because they were the first WARMACHINE faction I worked on as the playtest coordinator at Privateer Press.

Mercenaries is my favorite faction because you never know how they're going to come at you, from the sturdiness of Searforge to the subtlety of Highborn.

Trollbloods are my favorite faction because they can buff their army through the roof and wreck face like it's their job.

Circle Orboros is my favorite faction because I enjoy their denial element through terrain and arcane might.

Skorne is my favorite faction because they were my first HORDES faction, and they have impressive melee capabilities.

Legion of Everblight is my favorite faction because their dragonspawn warbeasts and impressive beast support are tough to beat.

And Minions are my favorite faction because they’re the first HORDES faction I worked on as a developer at Privateer Press.

Indecisively,
