Insider 10-12-2011

October is National Breast Cancer Awareness month here in the U.S., and that means it’s time for Breast Cancer Brawl.

BCB events worldwide have been gaining popularity over the past few years thanks to the efforts of our Press Gang volunteers and a very supportive and generous player community. I’ve said it before, but it bears repeating: These events wouldn’t be as successful if not for the generosity of all involved.

I’m a fan of pink models and pink armies. My Retribution of Scyrah army has bright pink accents, and once upon a time, I had a bright pink Trollblood army. Recently, I came up with a new color scheme for my Trolls that uses pink, just not quite as much of it.

Breast cancer awareness is a pretty personal topic for a lot of us who have been associated with BCB events. My mom is a breast cancer survivor and early detection made a huge difference. Pink models in my armies are a nod toward her, even if she doesn’t completely understand my hobby or what we do at PPHQ. At this point, it’s more of a challenge for me to come up with a color scheme that *doesn’t* have pink in it.
My painting table hasn’t been very active lately, mostly because I can’t decide what I want to paint. There are some models I’d like to be painting for Jarl Skuld’s theme force in HORDES: Domination, I’m still trying to finish my 50-point Thyra list, and there’s the allure of a Tier 4 Theme Force for Constance Blaize that I own all the models for. It’s not a bad problem to have.

Aside from the Trollbloods, none of those forces call for pink in the color scheme. After some deliberation and remembering the grief Kiko gave me at PAX Prime for not having made progress on my converted Rhulic warjacks, I chose a Ghordson Avalancher to paint over the weekend.

Since I started work on the Avalancher on Oct. 1, I thought it was appropriate to paint it pink. I’ve got eight heavy warjacks for my Gorten army and given that they’re converted to look like rabbits, they’ll be painted in pastels. So while the entire army won’t be pink, it will be well represented.

And though October has already started, it’s not too late to get involved with painting pink models. If you’re looking for BCB events, make sure you check out this thread that PG Annichka maintains.

Last but not least, the NJ SOBs have put together a pink-themed Circle Orboros army that will be available for auction from Oct. 14-22. Contact PG Dr_Norbert on the forums for more information.
