Insider 1-21-2011

I could draw this out and talk about all the awesome contained within this blog, but everyone always says a picture is worth a thousand words. So without further ado, I am happy to present the exclusive first look at the Arcantrik Force Generator!

In addition to the Arcantrik Force Generator, I also had a chance to speak with our studio painter Matt DiPietro, who is getting ready to take on the next battle engine.

What was your first reaction when you saw the size of the battle engines?

MD: I was split between being excited and a little apprehensive. The battle engines would be the largest models I had ever painted, and I knew I’d have to get them right on the first try.

How did you prepare to paint such large models?

MD: I did some research on techniques used by historical miniature painters to paint 1/35-scale tanks and vehicles. This gave me a lot of ideas for making the battle engine new and interesting. The challenge was thinking up ways to integrate these techniques into my normal way of doing things and to make the battle engines fit in with the rest of the studio army.

What are some of the challenges battle engines pose to painters?

MD: The toughest challenge is dealing with the large surface area. This means painters will have to commit the same amount of time to painting a single piece as they would to two or three warjacks, but the pay off will be well worth it. Other than that, you can use the same techniques you use on your other models to paint the battle engines. However, there are some special techniques that only work on large-scale models that we’ll be talking about in the painting section of WARMACHINE: Wrath.

Which battle engine are you most excited to paint?

MD: Definitely the Cryx Wraith Engine. That model has such presence, and the lighting on the piece will be an interesting challenge!

I for one can’t wait to get the battle engines on my own painting table, and I’m sure many of you out there feel the same way.

Tune in next week as we continue to provide electrifying first looks at everything battle engine!
